Friendship Home - A Resource For Individuals With Developmental Disabilities

I recently spoke to a group of parents at the Friendship Home in Norwell about planning for their children who have developmental disabilities.  Friendship Home opened in 2010 and provides respite care, day programs, job training, travel opportunities and family support. They also provide companion services and peer support groups.As their website says:

Friendship Home’s mission is to enrich the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families by providing quality respite care and support services in a safe and caring environment. Our programs build self-esteem and community involvement for our participants, while providing support for their families who may become overwhelmed and isolated by the daily demands of caring for their family members.

The facility itself is beautiful and homey, and the few times I have been there everyone has been very welcoming.  They even have a cafe where the public can come to lunch that is prepared and served by the clients of Friendship Home.Whether you have a child with developmental disabilities or are looking for volunteer opportunities on the South Shore, the Friendship Home is a wonderful resource!
