Preparing For Fall
As you ready to send your kids off to school (kindergarten to college) you'll want to make sure you've taken care of a few things:
- For any minor children, have you signed an Emergency Guardianship Proxy appointed a guardian in the event that you and their other parent are unavailable or unable to care for them?
- Have you made sure that your kids who are over 18 have signed a health care proxy (and maybe even a durable power of attorney) so that someone can make decisions for them in the event of a medical emergency?
- Have you had your over 18 kids sign a medical information release form so that you can check on health insurance claims for them or get information about them if they are hospitalized while they are away at school?
- Have you reviewed your own estate planning documents to make sure they still reflect your wishes?
Fall is a time for new beginnings and getting back to "serious" business, so make sure that your Will, Health Care Proxy and other legal documents are up to date.
